The Department of Education announced Sept. 3 that eligible Inuit post-secondary students will receive a new Nunavut Inuit Study Grant through FANS. The department lists nine benefits: a transitional allowance, holiday travel, school-supply and living-situation allowance, furniture allowance, mandatory exam fees, tutoring, recreation or activity allowance, student health and wellness allowance, and a transitional support person. The package could help with practical costs that are not limited to tuition, books or the usual start-and-end-of-school travel. It is territory-wide and aimed at Inuit students in post-secondary education, but the government has not publicly stated how much each new allowance will be worth or exactly when students can receive them.

Students should check with FANS before relying on the new benefits. The current FANS page says students must reapply each academic year, applications are due eight weeks before a program ends, and applicants generally must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents, have lived in Nunavut for at least 12 months before applying, and be enrolled in an eligible program of at least 12 weeks. This is an announced program enhancement, not a published schedule of payments. The existing FANS page already describes holiday travel and transitional living expenses among Inuit-specific benefits for the 2025–26 structure. The Sept. 3 announcement adds several further categories, but the department has not published the new rate table, application process or confirmation that all benefits are already available.
