Pauktuutit calls for federal funding for Inuit women’s housing, midwifery and safety supports
Pauktuutit Inuit Women of Canada has published a September pre-budget submission asking Ottawa to set aside gender-specific Inuit housing and shelter funding, sustain Inuit midwifery and culturally safe health services, and fund Inuit-led justice and violence-prevention work. ITK board allocates $107.3M for Nunavut Inuit housing and nature work
Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami’s board has allocated $107.3 million in federal funding to Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated over five years. The resolutions set aside $65.3 million for urban, rural and northern Indigenous housing, plus about $42.1 million for Inuit Guardians, conservation initiatives and the Inuit-Canada Nature Table. The board decisions allocate available funding; they do not show that individual Nunavut projects, payments or construction plans are already approved.
NTI explores an Inuit-led child and family services system for Nunavut
Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated is exploring whether it could take on some or all responsibility for child and family services for Inuit in Nunavut under federal Indigenous child-welfare legislation. No transfer has been approved, no Inuit child-welfare law has been announced, and no agreement with the Government of Nunavut or Canada is in place. NTI’s current strategy already calls for a feasibility assessment and for federal C-92 funding to support Inuit self-governance in child welfare. Source↗
QIA seeks applicants for 11 seats across eight boards and park committees by Sept. 25
The Qikiqtani Inuit Association is seeking applicants for 11 seats across eight listed boards and joint planning or management committees. Applications are due Sept. 25 at 5 p.m. EST, according to QIA. The call includes region-wide seats and community-specific park committee roles in Arctic Bay, Pond Inlet, Resolute Bay, Grise Fiord and Sanikiluaq. Source↗
Nunavut seeks nominations for 10-member Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit advisory committee
The Department of Culture and Heritage is seeking nominations for 10 people to serve on the Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit Katimajiit, an Elders committee that advises the Government of Nunavut on Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit approaches to policies, programs and services. Members would be appointed for three-year terms and meet at least three times a year. The notice does not give a nomination deadline. Source↗

ITK annual report says Inuit Nunangat University has secured $166M, with Arviat campus still planned for 2030
Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami’s newly published 2025–26 annual report says $166 million has been secured toward Inuit Nunangat University, whose main campus is planned for Arviat. ITK directs at least $218M in federal housing and nature funding to Inuit organizations
Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami’s board voted Sept. 9 to allocate $130 million in federal urban, rural and northern Indigenous housing funding and more than $88 million for Inuit-led environment and nature work. Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated is one of the four Inuit Treaty Organizations involved, but ITK has not published a Nunavut-specific share, project list, delivery schedule or application process. Canada moves to end NunatuKavut talks, but rights and funding questions remain
Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated welcomed Canada’s move to end a federal discussion process with the NunatuKavut Community Council. The decision closes a negotiation forum, but it does not settle disputed section 35 claims or automatically cancel funding and fisheries allocations.
ITK releases Inuit-specific definition of human trafficking, identifying housing and travel risks
Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami published an Inuit-specific definition of human trafficking on July 29. It says exploitation can include manipulation, coercion, deception, grooming and threats, and identifies unstable housing, limited Inuktut services and periods of displacement—including medical travel—as circumstances that can increase vulnerability. The publication is a definition and advocacy resource; it does not create a Nunavut law, reporting process, funding program or new service. Source↗
NTI allocates $4.14M for Nunavut school food programs this year
Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated says its board allocated $4.14 million in federal National School Food Program money for the 2026–27 school year. The money will flow through the Coalition of Nunavut District Education Authorities and be distributed by student enrolment to support meals and snacks in schools across Nunavut. Source↗

Pauktuutit releases policy briefs calling for Inuit-led housing, health and justice action
Pauktuutit Inuit Women of Canada’s June 2026 newsletter says nine new policy briefs are available online, including briefs on Inuit-led housing and shelters, Inuit justice revitalization, STBBI services, midwifery and resource-extraction workplaces. The documents are advocacy recommendations—not new funding, programs, laws or Government of Nunavut decisions. Source↗

KIA allocates $19.05M in Sapuulutaq funding across Kivalliq communities
The Kivalliq Inuit Association says its board approved $19,049,656 in Sapuulutaq Fund allocations for the current fiscal year: $17,148,137 for community initiatives and $1,901,519 for education. KIA says the two streams are funded through mining royalties and investment returns and that applications are open through the association and local Community Liaison Officers. Source↗
NTI announces Nunavut Day snowmobile and ATV draw winners
Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. says Nunavut Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement were automatically entered in its 2026 Nunavut Day draw, with one snowmobile and one ATV available in each community. NTI has not published a public list of winners; selected recipients are asked to contact their local Community Liaison Officer for paperwork and delivery follow-up. Source↗

KIA allocates $19.05M in new Sapuulutaq funding across Kivalliq communities
The Kivalliq Inuit Association board approved $19,049,656 in 2026–27 Sapuulutaq allocations: $17.15 million for community initiatives and $1.90 million for education. KIA says the funding began rolling out April 1 and is available for communities to apply for; it is an allocation of funding, not confirmation that individual projects have been approved. Source↗
ICC chairship moves to Canada as Aluki Kotierk begins four-year term
The Inuit Circumpolar Council’s General Assembly concluded in Iqaluit on July 25 with Aluki Kotierk elected chair for 2026–30, transferring the organization’s rotating international chairship from Kalaallit Nunaat to Canada. Delegates also adopted an Iqaluit Declaration intended to guide ICC’s work, though ICC has not publicly linked the declaration text.
Kivalliq Inuit Association offers Chesterfield Inlet help with program applications
Kivalliq Inuit Association is holding a three-day community visit in Chesterfield Inlet from August 11 to 13, 2026. The visit is an outreach and application-support session, not a new funding decision. KIA says all Kivalliq beneficiaries are welcome; a final open-house session is scheduled for Thursday, August 13, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Chesterfield Inlet Cultural Centre.
NTI approves $6.8M youth plan, $18.7M housing-interest distribution; questions remain on Arctic Fresh housing role
Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. says its board approved a $6.8-million youth wellness plan, distribution of $18.7 million in interest earned on federal Inuit housing funds, and transitional-housing work in four communities. NTI says Arctic Fresh Ltd. was selected through a competitive process, but it has not published the project contract, value, unit counts or schedule. Public records identify related Arctic Fresh entities as Inuit firms with previous government contracts and grants, but do not establish an ownership or governance tie to NTI or the regional Inuit associations.
NTI expands monthly support for eligible Nunavut Inuit Elders
Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. has expanded its Uqqujjait Innarnut Elders Support Program to provide additional Elders with monthly payments beginning in August 2026.
