Iqaluit water shutdowns planned Sept. 10 and 11; boil-water advisories will apply to affected addresses

In brief

The City of Iqaluit has scheduled separate water shutdowns from about 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 10 and Friday, Sept. 11. Residents at the listed civic addresses will be under precautionary boil-water advisories after water pressure drops, until the City posts lift notices. Source

What happened

The Sept. 10 interruption is planned for civic address ranges 400–500, 523–588 and 1601–1992. A separate Sept. 11 interruption is planned for 504, 506, 508, 513, 515, 517, 519, 5000–5099, 5300, 5302, 5304, 5306–5610, 5612A-C, 5614, 5618A-F, 5320, 5322A-J, 5324A-J and 5326A-F. The City says both shutdowns are needed for water-infrastructure work. Source

Why it matters

People at affected addresses should plan for a daytime loss of water service and boil water used for drinking, cooking, infant formula, ice, washing fruit and vegetables, and brushing teeth. The City recommends bringing water to a rolling boil for at least one full minute during each advisory.

What happens next

The shutdowns are planned, not completed. The City says it will issue public notices when the Office of the Chief Public Health Officer confirms each precautionary advisory can be lifted. Residents should check their civic address against the City’s notices before the scheduled shutdown day.

Important details

The City lists the planned service-interruption window as approximately 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on each day. The Sept. 10 and Sept. 11 notices are separate advisories with different address lists. The City says an after-hours urgent issue involving a water-main leak or no water pressure can be reported to City Dispatch at 867-979-5650. Source
