Permafrost ground survey in Iqaluit from August 25 to September 4
Tetra Tech Canada will conduct a permafrost ground survey in public areas of Iqaluit from August 25 to September 4, 2026. Residents may see workers and equipment, hear sledgehammer noise, and experience minor traffic delays; no lane closures are planned.
Stay at least 5 metres away from survey equipment because of tripping hazards. Expect brief delays and no lane closures.
Road closure — Atungauyait Drive and Paunna Road, Phase 1
The intersection of Atungauyait Drive and Paunna Road will be closed from September 1 to 11 for installation of water and sewer main lines. Detour signage will be in place, and local resident access will be maintained.

Update on August 24 animal control incident
The RCMP has advised the City that its investigation found no criminal activity. The file will be transferred to Municipal Enforcement for review under the City’s animal control by-laws. The RCMP reported that the dog was tethered and was not at large at the time of the incident.

Temporary leisure pool closure at the Aquatic Centre
The leisure pool at the Aquatic Centre is closed immediately for maintenance, cleaning and disinfection. The closure is expected to last about 24 hours, with leisure-pool programming expected to resume tomorrow evening. All other Aquatic Centre programming continues as scheduled.

The metal disposal area at the Iqaluit landfill is temporarily closed until further notice for scrap metal removal operations. Regular waste disposal at the landfill remains open as usual.

Sealed bids invited for surplus City assets
The City of Iqaluit is selling 19 surplus assets by sealed bid, including heavy equipment, vehicles, trailers, tires and a gantry crane. Items are sold as is, where is.

Aquatic Centre pool reopening August 16
The Aquatic Centre pool will reopen after annual maintenance on August 16, 2026, and the full facility will be operational again. Aquafit classes will not be offered in August, and the 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. lane swim is cancelled because of staffing shortages. Further short-notice schedule or capacity changes may occur through the end of August.

Traffic impacts and road closure — Niaqunngusiariaq Road
Intermittent traffic stoppages and lane closures are expected on Niaqunngusiariaq Road on August 24 while crews prepare for paving. On August 25, the road will close from about 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., first at Kangiq & Iniq Drive and then at Saputi Road.
