Iqaluit warns crosswalk signals remain disabled at Queen Elizabeth Way intersection

The City posted a public-service announcement dated Oct. 14 saying the crosswalk signal lights at Queen Elizabeth Way and Niaqunngusiariaq Road are not working because of damage from a vehicle accident. The City had issued an earlier advisory on Oct. 8 asking people to avoid the intersection while emergency personnel responded to the crash. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ↗ ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ↗

The intersection remains in use, but its pedestrian crossing signals are not operational. The City asks drivers to watch for people crossing and asks pedestrians to continue using the crosswalk while taking extra care.

The City says it is addressing the situation. It did not give a repair timeline or say when the signals will return to service.

This is an active safety advisory, not a road-closure notice. The City’s Oct. 14 web posting and attached PDF contain an apparent internal date error: both label the notice itself as Aug. 14, 2026, while the page date and PDF filename identify it as Oct. 14, 2026. The article should use the verified posting date and flag the discrepancy rather than treating August as the incident date.
