The City of Iqaluit says the AWG Arena will reopen for skating, hockey and community programming on Saturday, Oct. 17, after its seasonal change from turf to ice. The City has not yet posted program times or public-skating details.
Drivers should also plan for the next scheduled closure of Sivumugiaq Street between Nunavut Drive and Ikaluktuutiak Drive. The closure runs from 7 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ↗ ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ↗

The arena opening restores seasonal ice access at a major public recreation facility. The recurring street closure affects a connection between Nunavut Drive and Ikaluktuutiak Drive, so drivers will need to use the City’s signed detour route on affected weekends.

The City says information about arena programs and skating opportunities will be shared when available. Sivumugiaq Street is also scheduled to close on Oct. 24–25, Oct. 31–Nov. 1 and Nov. 7–8, each weekend from 7 a.m. Saturday to 7 p.m. Sunday. The City says the closures support the safe movement of equipment for siding and trim replacement on the Government of Canada building. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ↗
