WSCC launches dedicated employer-support team for Nunavut businesses

ᓇᐃᓈᕐᓗᒍ

The Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission says Nunavut employers now have a dedicated support team for help with business registration, clearance letters, payroll reporting, WSCC Connect and online injury or incident reports. The change is a service option, not a change to workplace-safety law, compensation coverage or employer rates. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ

On Oct. 1, the Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission announced a dedicated Employer Support team for employers in Nunavut and the Northwest Territories. WSCC says the team provides one point of contact for routine account questions and help using its online services. Its current Employer Services page lists the Nunavut support line and email, indicating the service is available. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ

Small businesses, contractors and other employers can use the team for practical help with registration, payroll submissions and clearance letters. WSCC says the team can also help employers file online injury and incident reports, check Safe Workplace status and connect with safety specialists. A clearance letter can matter when a business hires contractors or subcontractors because WSCC says principals may be liable for unpaid assessments connected to a contract. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ

Nunavut employers can contact the Employer Support team Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. MT/EDT at 1-877-404-4407 or employer@wscc.nu.ca. The existing Iqaluit reception and other WSCC services remain available. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ

WSCC describes the service as support for navigating WSCC Connect, registering a business, requesting a clearance, reporting payroll, filing online injury and incident reports, and referrals to occupational health and safety specialists. The announcement does not identify new legal duties, funding, staffing levels, service standards or a change to compensation rates.
