QIA announced Oct. 8 that planning is underway for the Saviruut building in Igloolik. It says it allocated $15 million from the Indigenous Community Infrastructure Fund and secured $3,199,100 from the Public Health Agency of Canada for Aboriginal Head Start enhancements. QIA’s board separately approved spending the $3,199,100 federal amount on Oct. 9. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ

The planned building would provide dedicated space for early-childhood education and community wellness programming in Igloolik. Tender records describe an approximately 9,100-square-foot preschool and wellness facility, showing the project has progressed beyond an idea, but it is not yet built or operating. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ

QIA says Arctic Fresh Projects was selected through a competitive procurement process to advance the work. Materials are planned for shipment to Igloolik in 2027 and construction would follow. QIA has not announced a construction-start date, completion date, opening date, number of child spaces, or who will operate the programs. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ

The April 2026 procurement notice sought construction and commissioning services for a 9,100-square-foot preschool and community-wellness facility. Tender drawings identify classrooms, a kitchen, multipurpose room, offices, counselling space and a cultural room, but do not establish service capacity or confirm final operations. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ
