Pangnirtung recorded fewer than five active TB cases through September, GN says
The Government of Nunavut says Pangnirtung recorded fewer than five active tuberculosis cases from Jan. 1 to Sept. 30, 2026. The public update does not provide an exact number, say whether the cases are linked, or announce a Pangnirtung-specific screening campaign. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ↗

Pangnirtung was one of four Nunavut communities reported to have fewer than five active TB cases in the first three quarters of 2026. The territorial total was 32 active cases in seven communities. The Health Department said treatment and preventive treatment are available in communities, and encouraged people with symptoms to visit their health centre for screening. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ↗

The update provides the latest public indication of active TB identified in Pangnirtung this year. However, the rounded count is limited information and should not be read as proof that there is no ongoing transmission or that a local outbreak response is underway.

Residents with a cough lasting more than three weeks, unusual tiredness, loss of appetite, fever or night sweats are encouraged by the Health Department to seek screening at the health centre. The government did not give a date for its next community-level update. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ↗

The report covers Jan. 1 through Sept. 30, 2026, and was released Oct. 2. It distinguishes active TB from latent TB, which is not contagious but can become active without treatment. The notice identifies ongoing outbreak work in Arviat and Naujaat, not Pangnirtung.
