Nunavut’s 2026–27 education plan shifts curriculum support to Grades 2 and 3

What happened
The Department of Education’s published 2026–30 business plan identifies 2026–27 actions to support the Nunavut curriculum and associated assessments in Grades 2 and 3. The plan also commits to developing Grade 4 educator resources and delivering Grade 4 curriculum training to all Grade 4 educators. These are departmental planned actions, not a new funding announcement or a report that implementation has been completed.
Why it matters
The plan indicates that the made-in-Nunavut curriculum rollout is moving beyond the Kindergarten–Grade 1 implementation identified in the department’s previous progress report. It affects classroom instruction, assessment and teacher support across territorial schools, while Grade 4 preparation is intended to support the next stage of rollout.
What happens next
For 2027–28, the plan lists instructional support for Grade 4, Grade 5 resource development and Grade 5 educator training. It also says the department will continue developing curriculum for Grades 7–12. The public business plan does not give school-by-school implementation results, identify training dates or report whether teachers have received all required materials.
Important details
The department’s 2024 progress report says it completed development of K–6 curricula in 2023–24 and planned implementation of the new Kindergarten–Grade 1 curriculum in the 2025–26 school year.
