The August Labour Force Survey puts Nunavut’s labour force at an estimated 17,600 people, including 15,600 employed people and 2,000 unemployed people. Compared with July, the labour force estimate declined by 200 and the participation rate declined 1.2 percentage points to 63.4%; the unemployment estimate and unemployment rate were unchanged.

The release is the newest official territorial labour-market snapshot. It updates Atiilu’s July coverage with an unchanged unemployment rate but lower employment and participation-rate estimates. The figures are estimates, not counts of every Nunavummiut seeking or holding work.

Statistics Canada’s next monthly Labour Force Survey release will provide the next territorial three-month moving-average estimate. No program, funding decision or government action accompanies this statistical release.

Statistics Canada reports territorial results as seasonally adjusted three-month moving averages, which are not directly comparable with provinces’ monthly estimates. The August table lists an average standard error of 0.2 thousand for month-to-month changes in Nunavut employment and labour force, 0.8 percentage points for the employment and participation rates, and 0.9 percentage points for the unemployment rate.
