The Government of Nunavut issued a public-health reminder on Thursday, September 17, confirming that seven communities remain under drinking-water advisories.

Rankin Inlet has been under a boil-water advisory since September 8 because of utilidor repair work. Grise Fiord, Chesterfield Inlet, Igloolik, Pond Inlet and Arctic Bay are also under boil-water advisories. Chesterfield Inlet’s advisory is linked to low chlorine levels, while the notices for Grise Fiord, Igloolik, Pond Inlet and Arctic Bay cite high turbidity, meaning cloudy water. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ↗

Sanikiluaq remains under a do-not-consume advisory. The government says water for consumption there must come from the reverse-osmosis units installed in each household. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ↗

For the six boil-water communities, water used for drinking, making infant formula, preparing food, making ice, washing produce and brushing teeth should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one full minute. The Sanikiluaq restriction is different: a do-not-consume advisory means tap water is unsafe to drink in any form, according to the department’s factsheet. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ↗
