The Government of Nunavut’s Health Department issued a public service announcement on Sept. 18 seeking proposals for one-time funding for community food-skills and knowledge-sharing projects across the territory. Eligible examples include harvesting and preparing traditional food with a knowledge keeper, intergenerational lunch programs where youth prepare food with Elders, and cooking programs for people living with diabetes.

Programs focused on Inuit food skills will be prioritized. Projects that only distribute emergency food, without a food-skills or knowledge-sharing part, are not eligible.

Applications are due Friday, Oct. 23, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern time. Organizations must contact the department to get an application form. The department will also hold an online information session on Oct. 8 at 11 a.m. Eastern, 10 a.m. Central and 9 a.m. Mountain time.

The call creates a near-term opportunity for community organizations to seek support for programs that build practical food preparation, harvesting and knowledge-sharing skills. It may be particularly relevant to organizations planning Elder-youth activities, traditional-food programming or diabetes-related cooking supports.

The public notice does not say how much money is available, how many projects may be funded, or when successful applicants would receive a decision.

Interested organizations should request the application package from the Health Department and may attend the Oct. 8 online information session before the Oct. 23 deadline. Funding decisions, project amounts and program start dates have not been announced.

Priority: programs focused on Inuit food skills.
