The Nunavut Housing Corporation opened the third-year intake of its modernized Nunavut Homeownership Assistance Program on Oct. 6. The corporation says the program offers a $250,000 forgivable loan, forgiven over 10 years, for the purchase and shipping of an NHC-approved building material package. Applications for the 2026 program year close Oct. 30. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ↗

The intake creates a time-limited route for Nunavummiut who can take on the remaining costs of homeownership to seek help building a home. NHC says it also provides project-management support, on-site supervision and technical guidance. The corporation’s program page says applicants must meet a one-year residency requirement and be able to afford owning and maintaining a home; residents should confirm all current requirements with NHC because its program webpage still displays the previous intake deadline. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ↗

Prospective applicants can download application material through NHC or contact its Homeownership Programs office at homeownership@nunavuthousing.ca. NHC has not said how many 2026 applications it will approve, when successful projects would begin, or whether any projects will be located in Iqaluit. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ↗

NHC says 10 homes supported through the second year of the modernized program are now in progress: two each in Pangnirtung and Arviat, and one each in Taloyoak, Rankin Inlet, Igloolik, Coral Harbour, Naujaat and Chesterfield Inlet. Those are projects in progress, not completed homes. The program is intended for people building and owning their own homes, not for public-housing applicants. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ↗
