The College has changed the renewal process for the 2027 registration year. Professional liability protection was already required to practise, but the College says nurses must now register directly with the Canadian Nurses Protective Society through its MyCNPS portal before submitting their College renewal.

Previously, the College sent registrant information to CNPS. Nurses can now create or activate their MyCNPS accounts and register for coverage from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2027. A renewal cannot be submitted until the College verifies that protection. The College says MyCNPS will show a $0 charge because the CNPS amount remains part of the renewal fee paid to the College. It says there is no additional cost from the process change. This is a practical deadline for nurses working in Nunavut. A nurse who has not completed the MyCNPS step cannot finish their renewal, even if the rest of the application is complete. Nurses can create or activate a MyCNPS account now, before College renewal opens on Oct. 15. They should select protection covering the full 2027 calendar year, then complete renewal through the College portal once it opens.
