Nunavut minimum wage is now $20.17 an hour
Nunavut’s minimum wage has been $20.17 an hour since Sept. 1, 2026. The territory’s Labour Standards office says employees must receive at least that rate for all hours worked, with no age restriction.
What happened
The Government of Nunavut announced June 30 that the territorial minimum wage would rise from $19.75 to $20.17 an hour on Sept. 1, 2026. The rate is now in effect. The government’s current labour-standards page confirms the $20.17 hourly minimum.
Why it matters
The change affects the minimum lawful hourly pay for workers across Nunavut and payroll costs for employers. Tips and other gratuities do not count as wages under the Labour Standards Act, the government says.
What happens next
Nunavut reviews the minimum wage annually under a formula based on changes in Iqaluit’s Consumer Price Index and Nunavut’s average hourly wage. The formula cannot reduce the existing minimum wage.
