Nunavut keeps residential property-tax rate unchanged outside Iqaluit, raises rates for commercial and resource properties
Nunavut’s 2026 residential property-tax rate outside Iqaluit remains 6.15 mills, but the rate for commercial and industrial properties rises to 6.77 mills. The new rates took effect Sept. 3, and the Finance Department says tax notices will be sent in late September with payment due 60 days after the notice date. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ↗

Residential properties are taxed at 6.15 mills, unchanged from 2025. Commercial and industrial properties are now in an “all other” category taxed at 6.77 mills, up from last year’s 6.15 mills. For a commercial or industrial property assessed at $100,000, a 6.77-mill rate equals $677 in annual property tax, compared with $615 at last year’s rate—an increase of $62, before any change in the property’s assessed value. Residential properties outside Iqaluit remain at $615 per $100,000 of assessed value. Iqaluit has its own property-tax system, administered by the City of Iqaluit. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ↗

The department says it will levy the tax and mail notices in late September 2026. Owners will have 60 days from the date on their notice to pay. The public notice does not give total projected revenue from the change or say why the commercial and resource-property rates increased.
