Statistics Canada released second-quarter job-vacancy data on Sept. 15. It reported that Nunavut’s number of job vacancies was down by about 200 from the second quarter of 2025, a 38.1 per cent decline. The agency said Nunavut’s job-vacancy rate was 1.9 per cent, down 1.3 percentage points year over year.

The data point to fewer reported openings than a year earlier. That may matter to job seekers, employers and people planning training programs, but the release does not identify a cause for the decline or show whether hiring conditions changed the same way in every community or occupation.

Statistics Canada says it will release third-quarter job-vacancy data on Dec. 15, 2026. The next Labour Force Survey release is scheduled for Oct. 9, 2026, covering labour-market conditions in September.

The Job Vacancy and Wage Survey counts vacant positions reported by covered employers. It excludes federal, territorial and municipal public administrations, as well as private households and primarily religious organizations. Its vacancy rate is the share of all covered positions that were unfilled. The release reports territorial estimates, not community-level results. The originally suggested population item was released June 17, 2026 and is not the newest relevant Statistics Canada release; Statistics Canada’s population subject page did not yet show the expected second-quarter population release as of Sept. 17.
