Nunavut’s Health Department has issued a public-service announcement seeking proposals for community food-skills projects across the territory. Eligible examples include harvesting and preparing traditional food with a knowledge keeper, intergenerational lunch programs involving youth and Elders, and cooking programs for people living with diabetes. The call is for one-time funding, not a continuing service or a list of funded projects.

The call gives Nunavut organizations a short, practical route to seek support for food knowledge and programming in their communities. The department says nutritious food and food skills support physical, mental, emotional and cultural well-being. Programs focused on Inuit food skills will receive priority. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ↗

The department’s listed online information session was held Oct. 8, so it has passed. The public notice does not state how much funding is available, how many projects may be selected, or when successful applicants will be notified.

Projects focused only on emergency food distribution are not eligible unless they also include food-skills or knowledge-sharing work. The call is open to local, regional and hamlet organizations across Nunavut. The notice directs applicants to contact the Health Department for the application form and further details. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ↗
