What happened

The City of Iqaluit posted the notice Sunday, Aug. 23. It says Monday, Aug. 24 will bring intermittent stoppages and lane closures while crews prepare for paving. Tuesday’s full closure is planned for approximately 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Kangiq and Iniq Drive, then approximately 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Niaqunngusiariaq Road and Saputi Road. SourceCity of Iqaluit

Why it matters

The closure affects a major route and its detour will change during the day. Drivers should plan extra time, use alternate routes where possible and follow the active signs and traffic-control directions rather than relying on the morning routing later in the day. SourceCity of Iqaluit

What happens next

The City says detour signs will be adjusted when the closure shifts around 1 p.m.; that timing may vary as work progresses. Local access will be maintained where possible. SourceCity of Iqaluit
