NHC continues $600 monthly benefit for eligible Nunavut homeowners
Nunavut Housing Corporation’s Canada–Nunavut Housing Benefit offers eligible homeowners $600 a month in non-taxable support. Current application materials remain posted, including for Iqaluit homeowners, whose household income must be below NHC’s published $222,717 threshold.
What happened
NHC announced the Homeowner Support Benefit on December 4, 2025. The benefit pays $600 per month, or $7,200 a year, directly to an eligible homeowner. NHC said about $6 million was available through 2028 under a cost-matched arrangement with Canada. The corporation’s current program page still provides the application guide and forms. Why it matters
The benefit is a recurring housing-cost support rather than a construction program or loan. NHC says it can help with costs such as utilities, insurance, deposits and furniture, and is intended to help homeowners sustain homeownership. For Iqaluit, NHC lists an Income Required for Homeownership threshold of $222,717; combined income of people named on the lease must be below that amount to qualify. Sourcenunavuthousing.ca↗
What happens next
Applicants must have lived in Nunavut for at least one year, own and occupy the home as their principal residence, and submit CRA income-verification consent and land-lease or property-assessment documents. Everyone named on the land lease must be included in the application. GN employees who receive or are eligible for the Nunavut Household Allowance cannot receive the benefit. NHC’s posted materials do not give an application deadline; approved files are reviewed annually and there are no retroactive payments. Homeowners can contact NHC at 1-844-413-9355 or homeownership@nunavuthousing.ca. Sourcedifferent-basket-89cd87b086.media.strapiapp.com↗
Important details
One benefit is available per physical address, and only one applicant receives the payment. NHC says payment can be made by direct deposit to a Canadian account in the homeowner’s name or a joint account. Meeting the listed eligibility requirements does not guarantee approval, according to the application guide. Sourcedifferent-basket-89cd87b086.media.strapiapp.com↗
