Naujaat reports no new TB infections in 2026, but outbreak response continues

ᓇᐃᓈᕐᓗᒍ

The Government of Nunavut says no new active tuberculosis or latent-TB infections have been identified in Naujaat so far in 2026. The department says the community’s outbreak is still ongoing and that testing, education, treatment and follow-up care continue. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ

In its Oct. 2 territory-wide tuberculosis update, Nunavut’s Health Department reported that Naujaat has recorded no new active TB cases or new latent-TB infections in 2026. The department described this as an improvement after higher case counts in earlier years.

The update signals improvement in Naujaat, but it is not an announcement that the TB outbreak has ended. Continued screening and follow-up matter because latent TB is not contagious but can develop into active TB without treatment.

The Health Department says it remains actively engaged in Naujaat and will continue testing, education, treatment and follow-up care. Residents with a cough lasting more than three weeks, unusual tiredness, loss of appetite, fever or night sweats are advised by the department to visit the health centre for screening.

The report covers Jan. 1 to Sept. 30, 2026. It does not provide the number of people currently receiving treatment in Naujaat, the total number of historical cases, or a date when the outbreak response could end. This is a separate community update from recent Atiilu News Desk coverage of Arviat and Kinngait. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ
