KIA offers $2,000 Jack Kaniak scholarship; applications due Aug. 31

In brief

The Kitikmeot Inuit Association is accepting applications until Aug. 31, 2026 for its $2,000 Jack Kaniak Memorial Scholarship. The form says it is intended for KIA beneficiaries pursuing post-secondary, trade, technical or business-school training in the Kitikmeot region.

What happened

KIA posted its 2026 Jack Kaniak Memorial Scholarship notice on July 24. It says the $2,000 scholarship is available through 2027 for applicants in the Kitikmeot region, and its application form specifies that the scholarship is intended for KIA beneficiaries. Sourcekitia.ca

Applicants must submit a completed form, proof of registration at an eligible institution, and a letter or email describing their program, how the funding would help and their community or volunteer work. Applications may be submitted by email, mail or in person; the listed deadline is Aug. 31, 2026. Sourcekitia.ca

Why it matters

The award is a direct, time-limited education-support opportunity for eligible Kitikmeot Inuit students. KIA says late or incomplete applications will not be processed.

What happens next

Eligible applicants should confirm their beneficiary eligibility, assemble the required documents and submit before Aug. 31. The form lists mevaglok@lands.kitia.ca as the email submission contact.

Important details

The application form says selection is based on merit, community service, leadership and extracurricular involvement. Its reference-letter instructions are unclear: it first says one letter may come from either a teacher or community member, then lists both a teacher/institutional reference and a community-member reference. Applicants should seek clarification from KIA rather than assume one reference is sufficient. KIA has not stated the number of scholarships to be awarded.
