Iqaluit opens sealed-bid sale for 19 surplus City assets
The City of Iqaluit is accepting sealed bids for 19 surplus municipal assets, including loaders, a backhoe, ambulance, pumper truck, grader, skid steer, trailers, tires and a gantry crane. What happened
The City published a public notice on Aug. 25 inviting bids for equipment and vehicles it says are no longer needed for municipal operations. Items are being sold “as is, where is,” and the City says it is not required to accept the highest—or any—bid. SourceCity of Iqaluit↗
Why it matters
The sale creates a time-limited local purchasing opportunity for people or businesses able to inspect, transport and repair heavy equipment or vehicles. Buyers, not the City, will be responsible for towing or lifting, labour, transportation and other removal costs.
What happens next
Assets may be viewed from Aug. 25 through Sept. 8, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., at the firefighting training grounds across from the landfill. Sealed bids must reach City Hall by 4 p.m. local time on Sept. 11. Successful buyers must pay the remaining balance within seven days of notification and remove their purchases by 5 p.m. on Sept. 18. Important details
A bid may cover one or more lots on one form. It must identify the bidder, lot numbers and bid amounts, and include a deposit of at least 10% of the combined bid value. The City accepts cash, certified cheque or money order. Listed lots include two Caterpillar 950G loaders, a Caterpillar 928G loader, a Caterpillar 426B backhoe, a Caterpillar compactor, a Ford E-450 ambulance, a Pierce Superior pumper truck and a New Holland grader.
