Iqaluit extends municipal fleet garage RFP deadline to Aug. 26
The City of Iqaluit has extended the bid deadline for a proposed design-build municipal fleet storage garage from Aug. 5 to Aug. 26 at 3 p.m. EST. The proposed heated facility would store up to 10 heavy water and sewer utility trucks, but it is not an awarded contract and its construction remains conditional on future planning amendments. Why it matters
The City is seeking one design-builder to design and construct an Arctic-rated, heated garage on City land between Toonik Pond and Niaqunngusiariaq (Apex) Road. The facility is intended to support trucked water and sewer operations, with five drive-through bays for at least 10 heavy trucks, separated water- and sewer-truck areas, washrooms and laundry facilities for 12 to 16 operational staff. What happens next
Bids are due Aug. 26. The City says staff will carry out a General Plan amendment and rezoning after a selected proponent develops preliminary design work. The City may proceed with design before council gives the required three readings, but may cancel the construction component and associated commitments if the amendments do not receive those readings. Important details
The RFP calls for a minimum 50-year design life suitable for Arctic conditions. Addendum 2 says the garage’s primary proposal must not depend on a thermosyphon foundation alternative; it also requires proponents to price a complete code-compliant fire-suppression system, including fire-water storage or alternatives if needed.
