CRTC broadband-funding applications close Thursday for eligible Nunavut projects
Eligible Nunavut governments, Inuit organizations, corporations and project partnerships have until Thursday, Oct. 15, at 8 p.m. Eastern time to submit complete applications to the CRTC’s fourth Broadband Fund call. The call can support improvements to services in eligible satellite-dependent communities, but it is an application deadline, not a funding approval. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ↗

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission extended the deadline for its fourth Broadband Fund application call to Thursday, Oct. 15, 2026, at 5 p.m. Vancouver time, or 8 p.m. Gatineau time. The deadline change is recorded in Telecom Notice of Consultation CRTC 2026-63-1, which amends proceeding 2026-63. The CRTC says late applications will not be considered. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ↗
The call accepts proposals for fixed broadband projects in eligible underserved areas and for projects in eligible satellite-dependent communities. Satellite-dependent proposals may seek support to increase satellite transport capacity for up to five years, or to build or upgrade earth-station equipment and local access infrastructure. Applicants must confirm that their proposed location is eligible using the CRTC’s mapping tools. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ↗

The call is relevant to Nunavut because it includes a route for projects that improve telecommunications services in satellite-dependent communities. For those projects, applicants must propose several service packages, including one suitable for low-income households, and proposed rates must be comparable to rates offered in Iqaluit. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ↗
Eligible applicants can include territorial or municipal entities, Canadian corporations, Inuit governments established under a comprehensive land-claim agreement, and partnerships of eligible organizations. At least one member of an applicant group must be eligible to operate as a Canadian carrier, and applicants must meet other financial and technical requirements. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ↗

Applicants must submit through the CRTC’s Online Intake System by 8 p.m. Eastern time Thursday. A project serving or building infrastructure in an Indigenous community must involve meaningful engagement. Written consent from that community’s representatives is required before final funding approval, although the CRTC may first make a conditional funding decision. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ↗
The CRTC will assess eligibility, then evaluate suitable projects and select among them. No Nunavut project, funding amount or construction work is approved by the deadline notice itself. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ↗

Proceeding: Telecom Notice of Consultation CRTC 2026-63, amended by 2026-63-1. Deadline: Oct. 15, 2026, 5 p.m. Vancouver time / 8 p.m. Gatineau time. Eligible satellite-dependent-community projects can cover added satellite capacity or upgrades to earth-station and access infrastructure; mobile wireless projects are not eligible in this call. The CRTC says it will favour projects that improve service, serve more households efficiently and avoid overlap with other publicly funded projects. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ↗
