The Department of Family Services increased daily foster-care rates by 45 per cent across Nunavut. Clyde River is in the highest listed rate group, along with Coral Harbour, Grise Fiord, Kugaaruk, Pond Inlet, Qikiqtarjuaq and Resolute Bay. The increase changes the daily financial support available to foster parents for costs the department identifies as food, clothing, housing, school supplies and extracurricular activities. The retroactive payment could provide a substantial one-time amount, but the total for each caregiver depends on the number of eligible days and children in their care between April 1 and Aug. 31.

The government says the retroactive payment is scheduled for Sept. 25, 2026. Foster parents who have questions about their rate or payment can contact their local Family Services office. This is an implemented rate increase, not a proposed benefit. The new rate has been effective since April 1, 2026; the Sept. 25 payment is intended to cover the increase for April 1 through Aug. 31. The government’s Sept. 2 notice says it will issue the payment, but does not state individual payment amounts, eligibility exceptions or a confirmation that every payment has been received.
