Arviat records fewer than five active TB cases so far in 2026, GN says
The Government of Nunavut says Arviat had fewer than five active tuberculosis cases and fewer than five new latent-TB diagnoses from Jan. 1 to Sept. 30, 2026. The department says the community’s TB outbreak remains ongoing and that testing, education, treatment and follow-up care continue. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ↗

In its Oct. 2 territory-wide tuberculosis update, Nunavut’s Health Department reported that Arviat had fewer than five active TB cases during the first three quarters of 2026. It also said fewer than five new latent-TB diagnoses were identified in the community, and that both measures had dropped significantly from 2025. The department did not publish exact counts. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ↗

The update shows fewer reported cases and new latent infections in Arviat, but it is not a declaration that the outbreak has ended. The Health Department says its outbreak response remains active, including testing, education, treatment and follow-up care. Latent TB is not contagious, but it can become active without treatment. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ↗

Residents with a cough lasting more than three weeks, unusual tiredness, loss of appetite, fever or night sweats should visit the health centre for screening, the department says. Nunavut says TB testing and treatment are free and available through local health centres. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ↗

The territorial update counted 32 active TB cases across seven Nunavut communities from Jan. 1 to Sept. 30, 2026. Arviat was one of four communities reported with fewer than five active cases; the release does not say whether its cases are connected or provide a community-specific screening schedule. The figures are a public-health update, not an end-of-outbreak notice.
