B2Gold says its Goose Mine produced 12,890 ounces of gold in the second quarter of 2026, after an April fire in the crushing circuit reduced the amount of ore the mill could process. NWMB record shows 10-tonne increase for Cumberland Sound turbot harvest
A Nunavut Wildlife Management Board decision record dated Aug. 19 indicates a 10-tonne increase to the Cumberland Sound turbot total allowable harvest. The earlier 500-tonne limit had been in place since 2005, so the record points to a 510-tonne limit for the 2026 fishery. ᓇᑭᓐᖔᖅᓯᒪᓂᖏᑦ↗
Nunavut employment estimate rises from last year, but unemployment also increases
Statistics Canada’s latest territorial labour-force estimate puts Nunavut employment at 15,600 and unemployment at 2,000 for August 2026. Employment was up by about 1,200 people from a year earlier, but the number of people unemployed was also up by about 400 and the unemployment rate rose to 11.3 per cent. The figures are three-month moving averages, which are used for territorial estimates. Iqaluit’s Consumer Price Index was unchanged from July to August, but was 3.4 per cent higher than in August 2025.
Iqaluit Centennial Library reduces hours because of staffing shortage
The Iqaluit Centennial Library has moved to temporary reduced hours because of a staffing shortage. It is now open from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Nunavut announces new FANS benefit package for eligible Inuit post-secondary students
Nunavut’s Education Department says it is introducing a Nunavut Inuit Study Grant under the Financial Assistance for Nunavut Students program this autumn. Clyde River foster-care rate rises to $94.25 a day; retroactive payments due Sept. 25
Clyde River foster parents are now eligible for $94.25 a day for each child in care, up from $65, under Nunavut’s 45 per cent foster-care rate increase. The higher rate took effect April 1, 2026. Nunavut’s Department of Culture and Heritage is seeking nominations for 10 members of the Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit Katimajiit, an Elders advisory committee that provides advice on government policies, programs and service delivery. Iqaluit council approves up to $108.7M federal water-infrastructure agreement tied to housing growth
Iqaluit council has approved entering a federal contribution agreement worth up to $108,721,940.25 for water and wastewater work intended to support housing development. Nunavut’s audited 2024–25 accounts show $196.9M surplus as health spending ran $198.5M over budget
The Government of Nunavut’s audited public accounts for the year ended March 31, 2025 show a $196.9-million consolidated surplus, far above the $43.4-million surplus in its original budget. The result included higher-than-expected revenue, including $60.9 million in tobacco-settlement proceeds, while total spending was $7.7 million above budget. ITK board allocates $107.3M for Nunavut Inuit housing and nature work
Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami’s board has allocated $107.3 million in federal funding to Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated over five years. The resolutions set aside $65.3 million for urban, rural and northern Indigenous housing, plus about $42.1 million for Inuit Guardians, conservation initiatives and the Inuit-Canada Nature Table. The board decisions allocate available funding; they do not show that individual Nunavut projects, payments or construction plans are already approved.
CRTC extends deadline for input on proposed Indigenous broadband funding stream
The CRTC has extended the deadline for comments on its proposed Indigenous stream of the Broadband Fund to Dec. 1, 2026, from Sept. 18. Replies will be due March 2, 2027.
