What happened
The City of Iqaluit issued the closure notice on Aug. 18, 2026. It says the metal disposal area is temporarily unavailable for scrap-metal removal operations, while regular waste disposal continues as usual.
Why it matters
Residents and businesses taking metal to the landfill cannot use that area until the City issues a reopening notice. The City has identified active heavy equipment and truck traffic as the reason people should stay out of the area.
What happens next
The City says it will issue another notice when the metal disposal area reopens. No reopening date or alternate metal-disposal location is provided in the current notice.
