What happened
The Nunavut Housing Corporation reports $173.99 million in contracting and leasing activity for the year ending March 31, 2026. Inuit firms accounted for $52.81 million, or 30 per cent. Source↗
The report puts Nunavut firms at 13 per cent and other firms at 57 per cent. These are registry-based categories: “other” means a supplier isn't registered with Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated or the territorial business registry, not necessarily that it operates outside Nunavut. Source↗
Construction accounted for $76.25 million and leases for $51.79 million. Source↗
Negotiated contracts represented 46 per cent of construction value, down from 98 per cent in 2022–23. The corporation attributes the shift to multi-vendor agreements for housing supply and construction. Source↗
Why it matters
The figures help readers track public housing business and Inuit participation. They don't establish whether procurement delivered better value.
What happens next
Follow-up reporting should seek final costs and project status. Construction award values can change and don't establish completion. Source↗
Important details
The Assembly lists the corporation's report as document 088-7(2), tabled Nov. 3, 2026, by Lyall. Tabling is not approval of new spending. Source↗
