On Sept. 17, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission issued Telecom Notice of Consultation CRTC 2026-47-1, changing the schedule for its proceeding on an Indigenous stream of the Broadband Fund. The proposed stream is intended to create a more tailored route to Broadband Fund support for Indigenous applicants. The underlying consultation asks about issues including who qualifies as an Indigenous applicant, eligibility and assessment rules, reporting requirements, eligible costs and how the CRTC should engage with Indigenous applicants. These future rules could matter to Inuit organizations, communities and Indigenous-led telecommunications projects in Nunavut. Source↗

The CRTC says First Nations, Inuit and Métis people and organizations that need help submitting comments, including oral interventions, can contact its Indigenous Relations Team.
