Auditor General lists Nunavut drinking-water audit for 2027
The Office of the Auditor General of Canada has listed “Management of Drinking Water — Nunavut” as an upcoming territorial audit, with publication anticipated in 2027. The office has not yet published the audit’s scope, objective, departments under review or a firm release date. Source↗
What happened
The Auditor General’s current upcoming-reports page lists a Nunavut audit on drinking-water management under its northern-territory work. It says only that more information is to come and that publication is anticipated in 2027. This confirms a planned audit, not findings or recommendations. Source↗
Why it matters
The planned review concerns a service with direct daily effects in several Nunavut communities. The Government of Nunavut’s current water page lists boil-water advisories for Rankin Inlet, Grise Fiord, Igloolik, Pond Inlet and Arctic Bay, and a do-not-consume order in Sanikiluaq. It also still lists Chesterfield Inlet, although the department previously announced that advisory was lifted on Sept. 22; Atiilu News Desk should seek clarification before treating that entry as active. What happens next
The Auditor General is expected to publish more information as the work progresses, followed by a report anticipated in 2027. Until then, there is no public audit scope, no identified audited department, no findings and no recommendation for the Government of Nunavut to act on.
Important details
The Auditor General’s page was updated Aug. 17, 2026. APTN News reported Aug. 5 that the audit was still in planning and that its scope, method and timeline were being determined. The official page now independently confirms the planned 2027 report but gives no additional detail. Source↗
