The Nunavut Teachers’ Association has set out its 2026–27 professional-development process. North and Central Qikiqtani are scheduled for a conference year, with a regional conference in Iqaluit during the Feb. 15–19, 2027 PD Week. Members in those regions must state whether they plan to attend by Sept. 16 so the association can arrange travel, space and sessions.

The association says individual PD funding allotments will not be available to North and Central Qikiqtani members who do not attend the Iqaluit conference because funding for those regions is being directed to the conference. Members who cannot attend must instead submit a PD Week application through the new database and are encouraged to use the Connected North virtual conference.

Teachers in Kitikmeot, Kivalliq and South Qikiqtani will use an individual or group application process for PD Week. The association lists Nov. 30 as the deadline for PD Week applications to its coordinators, while noting that school-level committees may set internal deadlines about two weeks earlier. Source↗

The Sept. 16 deadline affects teachers’ ability to be included in conference travel and planning for the Qikiqtani PD Week. The new regional funding arrangement also means teachers who cannot attend the Iqaluit conference should not assume they can access an individual funding allotment.

The new 60-day lead time for applications requiring southern travel authorization could affect teachers planning courses, workshops or conferences outside Nunavut. The association also says professional-development activities outside Canada are generally ineligible for funding unless directly tied to a Government of Nunavut Department of Education or Nunavut Teachers’ Association initiative. PD and communications liaisons are scheduled for training on the new database and PD Week process from Oct. 19 to 23. PD Week applications are due Nov. 30, 2026, and applications for educational leave and multi-year Nunavut Teacher Education Program support are due Feb. 5, 2027 at midnight Eastern Time. Source↗

The association says its new PD funding database is hosted through Connected North and is accessed using a Connected North login. Teachers with unfinished applications in the old system are told to contact their regional PD coordinator.

The North and Central Qikiqtani conference-year regions include Iqaluit and Apex in Central Qikiqtani. North Qikiqtani includes Arctic Bay, Grise Fiord, Igloolik, Pond Inlet, Resolute Bay and Sanirajak. Source↗
