The department describes IQK as a committee of Elders that provides advice and knowledge about principled Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit approaches in government work.

The appointments would help shape how Inuit knowledge and Inuit Societal Values are considered in territorial policies, programs and service delivery. The government says committee members can also be asked for advice by Cabinet or ministers and will identify and record Inuit Maligangit for a Government of Nunavut knowledge repository.

People who are knowledgeable in Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit can submit a nomination using the form identified by the department.
