The Department of Education issued a public-service announcement on Aug. 18, updated Aug. 26, about its Young Parents Stay Learning program. The program helps eligible parents under 18 pay for child care at a licensed centre or an approved private caregiver while they continue full-time education in Nunavut. Child-care costs or a lack of care can make it harder for young parents to stay in school. The notice sets out a territorial support option, although the government has not published a per-child payment amount or said how many students are currently receiving help.

Eligible students can speak with their school or contact a regional early childhood officer. The application requires confirmation from a school counsellor, principal or program administrator, plus child-care information. The government has not posted an application deadline. Source↗

To qualify, an applicant must be under 18, be a parent or legal guardian of a child needing care, attend a full-time Nunavut school or study program, and not receive the Family Services Day Care Subsidy. Applicants need a place with a licensed child-care centre or private caregiver; when licensed care is unavailable, departmental approval is required for an unlicensed caregiver. The application says the subsidy applies while the student attends classes, with limited additional school-day exceptions, and families remain responsible for costs above what the program pays.
