What happened

Environment Canada issued an amended marine forecast at 9:02 a.m. EDT on Sunday, Oct. 18. Gale and freezing-spray warnings are in effect for West Clyde, Cumberland and northern West Brevoort. West Clyde is forecast to reach northwest winds of 35 knots Monday evening. Cumberland and northern West Brevoort are forecast to see northwest winds of 35 knots before easing overnight. Snow or flurries, low temperatures and visibility of one mile or less in snow are forecast in several eastern Nunavut marine areas. Source

Why it matters

Gale-force winds, freezing spray and reduced visibility can make travel and harvesting conditions more hazardous for boats operating in the affected waters. In Frobisher Bay, there is no current warning, but mariners can expect northwest winds of 25 knots, flurries and one-metre seas today. The latest available ice forecast for the bay lists bergy water. What happens next
