What happened
The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission extended the filing deadline for its fourth Broadband Fund application call from Aug. 13 to Oct. 15, 2026. The revised deadline is 5 p.m. Vancouver time, or 8 p.m. Gatineau time. The proceeding is CRTC 2026-63-1, public record 1011-NOC2026-0063. Source↗
Why it matters
The call is a current funding opportunity for projects intended to improve telecommunications in underserved areas. It specifically allows projects that improve service in satellite-dependent communities, making it relevant to Nunavut communities, Inuit organizations, governments and service providers. The call does not approve funding for any Nunavut project or set aside a Nunavut-specific amount. Source↗
What happens next
Applicants must submit a complete application through the CRTC’s online intake system by Oct. 15. The CRTC says applications need the required forms, attachments and supporting evidence; late or incomplete applications will not be considered. Applicants can change and resubmit an application before the deadline. Source↗
Important details
Call 4 seeks projects that would help households reach at least 50 megabits per second download and 10 Mbps upload internet service. Eligible project categories include fixed-broadband projects in underserved areas and projects improving telecommunications services in satellite-dependent communities. This is an application call, not a public-comment consultation. The intervention deadline is not applicable; the application deadline is Oct. 15, 2026, at 8 p.m. Eastern time. Source↗
