Privacy Policy

How Atiilu News handles information submitted to the private newsroom.

Last updated: August 13, 2026.

Information you submit

News tips, event submissions, correction reports, advertiser accounts and contact messages may include names, contact details, organization information, uploaded files and other information you choose to provide. This material is stored as a private newsroom record and used to assess, verify and respond to the submission.

Anonymous audience measurement

Atiilu News uses first-party audience measurement to count site and story visits. The browser stores a random session identifier and activity time locally for a rolling 30-minute period so repeat page loads are not counted as separate visits. The server temporarily hashes that random identifier and permanently stores only daily aggregate totals. The analytics system does not store visitor IP addresses, names, contact details, advertising identifiers or browsing profiles. Logged-in newsroom editors and recognizable automated traffic are excluded.

Facebook-verified comments

To comment, a reader connects a personal Facebook account through Facebook Login. Atiilu News stores the app-scoped Facebook ID, Facebook-verified name, profile image URL, connection dates, comment text and moderation history. The Facebook password and access token are not stored. The verified Facebook name is the public comment name and cannot be replaced with an alias. Every comment is reviewed before publication.

A reader may remove Atiilu News from Facebook or request deletion through Facebook. Pending comments are deleted; approved comments may remain as part of the public discussion but are anonymized and disconnected from the Facebook identity.

Story archive and comment retention

Published stories move to the searchable public archive three calendar months after publication. At that point commenting closes and approved comments remain visible as a read-only public discussion. A verified comment submitted in the final 24 hours extends that story’s archive deadline by 48 hours.

Advertiser accounts

Advertiser email addresses are verified before account review. Organization and contact details are visible only to the advertiser and authorized News Desk users. Payment occurs through Square only after the advertiser account and exact advertisement are approved; Atiilu News does not store card details.

Boater email subscriptions

The Daily Iqaluit Boaters Report form stores the name, email address, consent time, confirmation status and delivery history needed to operate the service. An address must be confirmed before daily reports can be sent. Every report includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribed addresses are excluded from future delivery.

Confidential tips

A request for confidentiality limits internal use of identity and contact details, but no website form can guarantee absolute anonymity or legal privilege. Do not submit information you are not authorized to share.

Technical information

The website may process ordinary server logs, security events and anti-spam information needed to operate and protect the service. Atiilu News does not sell personal information.

Retention and correction

Editorial records may be retained to preserve sourcing, approval and correction history. Subscription records may be retained to document consent and honour unsubscribe requests. Contact Atiilu News if you believe personal information is inaccurate or should be reviewed.
