The City posted a public-service announcement on Sept. 25 saying it is conducting water-flow and pressure testing in Lower Iqaluit in support of a new development. The work involves opening fire hydrants at full capacity, which can stir settled sediment in water pipes and temporarily discolour tap water.

The notice gives residents a practical response if their tap water changes colour during testing. It is not a boil-water advisory and the City does not say water service will be shut off.

If discoloured water does not clear after flushing a cold tap, residents can contact City Public Works at 867-979-5630. For urgent after-hours water-main leaks or loss of water pressure, the City directs residents to City Dispatch at 867-979-5650.

The City did not identify the development being supported, the streets or addresses where testing is occurring, or a testing schedule. The City’s English notice includes an attached English PDF; no corresponding Inuktitut or French version was found on the language-specific notices pages when checked Sept. 26.
