Iqaluit Centennial Library cuts hours temporarily because of staff shortage
The Iqaluit Centennial Library is temporarily open from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday because of a staff shortage. The Government of Nunavut has not set a date for regular hours to return.
What happened
The Government of Nunavut announced Sept. 22 that the Iqaluit Centennial Library has reduced its hours because of a staff shortage. The library now opens from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. It is closed Sundays. Source↗
Why it matters
The change reduces the times residents can use the library’s collections, computers and other in-person services, particularly in the morning and early evening. The notice does not describe which positions are vacant or which services, if any, are affected beyond the shorter opening hours.
What happens next
The department says it will announce a return to regular hours once the library is fully staffed. No return date was provided.
Important details
The notice was released Sept. 22 and last updated Sept. 23. The library lists 867-975-5595 for questions. This is a temporary service reduction, not a library closure.
